After Uruguay`s national parliament passed a national law ratifying the ILO Convention 190 on 17 December 2019, the country has deposited the instrument of ratification and becomes the first officialy ratify the ILO`s Violence and Harassment Convention 190.
This is an important step in the process to make the Convention to enter into force, as all ILO Conventions needs at least two country ratifications to enter into force.
Guy Ryder, ILO Director General, stated this as an important and timely step made by Uruguay which reflects its longstanding commitment to the ILO’s mission. And he now hopes and urges that other countries "follow this example" and ratify ILO Convention 190.
